Session 5.23 for June 9, 2013

This week, we continue our look into the life and ministry of Elijah, the prophet. In today's scripture text, we read the story of how a widow gave her last bit of bread to Elijah because he offered her hope that it would be returned with profit. More importantly, we look at a story in which two people have to rely on one another for their very survival and we are reminded of how inter-dependent we are on one another.

Our lesson today begins our study of the prophet Elijah in the book of 1 Kings. We hear how God shows power over the many other gods that were acceptable in the ancient culture. In modern times, we also have many “gods” that distract us from following the one true God.

Romans 5:1-11 shows us a snapshot of Paul’s theology. It also gives us some insight into the mystery of the Resurrection of Christ. The story of Jesus is transforming and big. We may not be able to completely wrap our minds around this story, but it consistently and thoroughly changes who we are when we believe.

Session 5.19 for May 12, 2013

This session concludes the last in our six-week series in the book of Revelation. We have focused a great deal on hope and persevering through difficult times. We’ve learned that the early Christians faced terrible persecution. We’ve noted that it’s been 2000 years – a lot has changed, and Jesus still hasn’t come back. Yet, we have the promise that the future is bright and full of God’s love, no matter the present. We have the understanding that hope springs forth from a God who fulfills promises.
