The New City

Session 5.18 for May 5, 2013

In today's passage, we read John's final vision in the book of Revelation — and it is something else! John's vision of the new Holy City is so spectacular, that the only way he can describe it is to talk about precious stones, and pearls, and gold. As we read the text closely, we discover that what makes the place so magnificent is that that God is completely present to all that are there. God's presence is what brings about newness and beauty. Where is God present in your life today?

All Things Made New

Session 5.17 for April 28, 2013

As we continue in our study of Revelation, the tone of John's visions seem to change. Where we had death and destruction, there is now a new heaven and a new earth. We are seeing the first glimpses of John's vision of heaven. How does our view of heaven affect the way we live today?

Hope In Diversity

Session 5.16 for April 21, 2013

This is the third week of our six-week study in the book of Revelation. Last week, we talked about hope and how we can know that God bring hope in the midst of an imperfect world. Today, we continue uncovering the hope that is found in Christ. We see that God’s hope and vision is not offered to a select group. God’s hope is not revealed only in the churches that look and feel like our own. Rather, it is present in the multitudes, even amongst those that are different from us.

Worthy is the Lamb!

Session 5.15 for April 14, 2013

This is the second week of our six-week study in the book of Revelation. As a group, we have journeyed through Easter, talked about God’s transformative work in the form of Christ, and now we are asking “what’s next?”. We live in a liminal world – an in-between place- where we have hope that Christ makes all things new and better; yet, we are not quite there yet. Revelation 5:1-14 gives us hope that there is one who can triumph over bad things. In the meantime, we can join in the proclamation, “Worthy is the Lamb!”.

Jesus Is Coming

Session 5.14 for April 7, 2013

The book of Revelation usually elicits strong reactions from people. Some are excited about the prospect of studying the book and others would prefer to stay far away from it. Either way you land, we are going to be looking at this often controversial book over the next few weeks. In today's text, we are reminded by the writer of the book of Revelation that Jesus is coming again and that knowledge is to bring us hope — hope that one day soon, all will be made well.
