God Calls the Unexpected

Session 6.46 for November 16, 2014

In the Biblical story, God often uses the least significant to do the work of God. He chooses the smallest and youngest to be the greatest king. God uses the sinner to teach us what righteousness truly looks like. Time and time again, God calls the last person we expect to do God's work in this world. In today's story, we discover that we are all capable of taking part in God's work in the world.

Keep Calm, Choose God

Session 6.45 for November 9, 2014

Today, we hear Joshua calling the Israelites to be faithful in their worship of God. It seems that they continue to struggle to put their trust in God alone. It is easy for us to judge the Israelite for their worship of other gods. However, we must be careful. We may not worship actual idols or try to incorporate worship of other gods into Sunday morning services, but we too can be seduced by the promises of other things - things that promise us success, health, wealth, friends, popularity — they may not be gods as the Israelites struggled with - but they are gods in the sense that they compete for our attention and our loyalty and even our love or adoration. Anything that distracts us from God and from serving or obeying God becomes a god in our lives.

God Makes Way

Session 6.44 for November 2, 2014

Times of transition in life are exhilarating to some and burdensome to others, but these times almost always come with some degree of stress. What role do we allow God to play in these times of change? In today's session, we see God at work, enabling the Israelites to safely cross, not only a physical barrier, but also into a whole new time of life.

A Good Death

Session 6.43 for October 26, 2014

Have you ever wondered what people would say about you after you die? In today's session, we read about the day that Moses dies and he is remembered as a faithful prophet of God. Moses was not perfect, but he did strive to live his entire life for God. Today's session is a challenge to live our lives in a way that people will be reminded of God's presence among us.

Seeking Intimacy With God

Session 6.42 for October 19, 2014

Have you ever felt as though God was truly close to you? Moses is one in the Bible who seems to have enjoyed a truly intimate relationship with God. He challenged God, he spoke frankly with God, he even got to see God. More than that, God demonstrated a desire to be close to Moses. Perhaps it is also true that God wants to be that close to us. How can we grow in intimacy with God?
