Session 6.45 for November 9, 2014
Today, we hear Joshua calling the Israelites to be faithful in their worship of God. It seems that they continue to struggle to put their trust in God alone. It is easy for us to judge the Israelite for their worship of other gods. However, we must be careful. We may not worship actual idols or try to incorporate worship of other gods into Sunday morning services, but we too can be seduced by the promises of other things - things that promise us success, health, wealth, friends, popularity — they may not be gods as the Israelites struggled with - but they are gods in the sense that they compete for our attention and our loyalty and even our love or adoration. Anything that distracts us from God and from serving or obeying God becomes a god in our lives.
