Persistent Forgiveness

Session 6.37 for September 14, 2014

Jesus loves to answers questions with stories. Today's text is a great example of that. Peter asks a question about forgiveness and Jesus tells a story about a man who was forgiven, yet refused to forgive. When we look closely at Jesus' teachings on forgiveness we discover that to be a follower of Christ is to be someone who practices forgiveness. Who do you need to forgive today?

Conflict Resolution

Session 6.36 for September 7, 2014

How do you deal with conflict? How are we supposed to deal with conflict within the church community? In today's text, Jesus deals with this issue. Often times, we interpret this text in terms of how we are to escalate a response to conflict. What if we thought about it in terms of Jesus calling us to slow down in how we deal with it?

Simple — Though Not Easy

Session 5.35 for August 31, 2014

In chapter 12, Paul begins to articulate ethical issues of what it looks like to live a Christian life. He begins by saying, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect." He encourages the Romans to transform themselves so that they live according to the will of God. Paul continues, in our passage today today, to challenge them to live as Christ did.

Gifted To Serve

Session 6.34 for August 24, 2014

As followers of Christ, we are called to live a sacrificial life as he did. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice — and while most of us are not called to that kind of sacrifice, we are called to serve others as Christ served. Paul calls on the church to be aware of who they are and what their gifts are — and then to use those gifts in service of each other and the larger community.

A Mysterious Tree

Session 6.33 for August 17, 2014

In today's text, Paul uses a metaphor of tree-grafting to show how God is still at work, making room for all. He says that though it seems as if God has rejected the Jews, that is not the case. God is working through all of it to make space for every one, Jews and Gentiles.
