Redefining Wisdom

Session 6.06 for February 9, 2014

Paul writes to the people of the church of Corinth about a new way of seeing things. This new way to look at the world could only be understood after Jesus came. The cross of Christ seems like such a strange thing to us, but as we begin to understand it more, it can change they way we see poverty, war, creation-care and so much more. It changes they way we see our world.

It's All Foolishness

Session 6.05 for February 2, 2014

In this week's session, we find Paul calling the gospel of Christ foolishness. Paul understands that to the world, everything about the way the gospel works looks strange and backwards. However, he also knows that when we are able to more deeply comprehend the cross, we will see that the ways of God are not foolish, but carry the most wisdom and power.

Stop Choosing Sides

Session 6.04 for January 26, 2014

As we continue our discussion of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, we find him addressing issues of division in the community. It seems that the people were divided over who was the best teacher and this division was keeping them from being the kind of community they were called to be.

Lacking Nothing

Session 6.03 for January 19, 2014

This week, we begin a six week session in the book of 1 Corinthians. In today’s text, Paul is speaking to a church that struggles to grow into it’s full potential because it is so busy fighting over who has what gifts and what knowledge. Paul understands that these people suffer under the fallacy that there is not enough giftedness to go around. He is striving to help them know that they have been given everything they need from God.

No Partiality!

Session 6.02 for January 12, 2014

As we move into the season of Epiphany, we enter into the middle of an already in progress story — the story of Peter and Cornelius. Peter had overcome his own prejudice in order to participate in the the work that God was doing and the changes that God was making happen in the early church. So often, it is our own biases and beliefs that get in the way of what God is trying to do around us.
