Gaining Perspecitve

Session 4.06 for February 5, 2012

In Isaiah 40:21-31, readers are reminded that we are like grasshoppers in light of God’s perspective and power. As believers, we have the opportunity to join with God to better understand Creation and God’s will. Sometimes, though, it is easy to get stuck amongst the weeds like a grasshopper. Isaiah 40:21-31 reminds us that we can, through our faith, gain better understanding and a closer relationship with a powerful God.

In Word and Deed

Session 4.05 for January 29, 2012

In Mark 1:21-28, Jesus teaches to a crowd at the synagogue and heals a man in the crowd.  He taught the people in a way that brought wholeness to the sick and amazement to the hearers. In the same way that Jesus healed the sick man to make him whole, Jesus continues to invite us toward wholeness even today.  Jesus’ teachings were powerful to the listeners in the Gospel.  They continue to be powerful as we seek a life of truth and wholeness and seek to spread these truths to others.

Day By Day

Session 4.04 for January 22, 2012

In this passage, Jesus calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John to be his disciples. Jesus calls them to “repent and believe” they leave everything behind to follow Jesus. These men turned away from their current lives and turned toward Jesus. The words that Jesus use here “repent” and “believe” were written in the Greek texts in a way that showed that repentance and believe were ongoing and daily commands. Simon, Andrew, James, and John left their current lives to begin an ongoing and daily commitment to Jesus. Jesus also asks us to repent and believe. Being a Christian is not just a one-time commitment but daily discipleship. When we repent we do a 180 and turn from something in our lives to Christ. We keep on doing this day after day. Repenting, believing, and turning toward Christ

Nathanael's Skepticism

Session 4.03 for January 15, 2012

In this passage, Jesus calls Nathanael and Philip. Philip is skeptical at first, but Jesus takes time to address his questions and Nathanael is willing to listen. Even today, we have difficult questions about faith and life. Sometimes, we are around other people who ask questions that make us uncomfortable. During our time today, you have a chance to ask some of those questions. As we see in today’s passage, it is totally okay to have questions. God is patient and helps even the biggest skeptic seek answers.
