A Listening Heart

Session 6.30 for July 27, 2014

If God told you that you could ask for anything you wanted, what would you choose? Solomon, a boy king asked for a listening heart so that he could rule his kingdom more effectively. Sometimes, when we are hoping for something inside of us, we may discover that it is already there.

Love God First

Session 6.29 for July 20, 2014

Today, we do not worshipped images of gods cast in gold and silver; however, there are plenty of things that steal our attention, devotion, and even worship. Living life as a faithful Christian is fairly simple — when we love God first, everything else seems to fall into place. So why is it that the implementation of that calling is such a seemingly difficult thing to do?

Imagining With Hope

Session 6.28 for July 13, 2014

When the Israelites found themselves in a desperate situation, the role of the prophet was to speak words of hope that would sustain them all that they would face. The hope they offered was intended to spur on the imagination of the Israelites so that they could envision a world that seemed an impossibility. When we are able to imagine with hope what can be, we can then participate in helping to make it happen. When we are able to describe the world as it ought to be, we can be empowered to transform the world from how it is today.

Prisoners of Hope

Session 6.27 for July 6, 2014

Hope is a powerful thing. It challenges us risk much and to make ourselves vulnerable. In today's text, the prophet calls us to be enslaved to our hope so that we may experience ultimate freedom.

No Quick Fix

Session 6.25 for June 22, 2014

Our world is full of people selling something for nothing. Loose weight and eat what you want, get fit with no exercise, three easy steps to complete happiness, and get rich by reading this book. But we all know that isn't how these things work and there is not quick and easy path to faith. Today, Jeremiah listens to another prophet who is trying to sell something for nothing. He has to stop and consider what the true word of God is.
